Weather:
Not to many sweltering humid days yet so it doesn’t really feel like summer.
This year continues to be a real struggle with unexpected health stresses, family situations, work challenges and new unpleasant surprises around every corner. The other shoe seems to be constantly dropping. But while that all circles around there are still chances in the day to day to smile and laugh and have wonderful moments, create joyful memories and to laugh, laugh recklessly until you lose your breathe. Life continues to be a struggle but it certainly continues.
A few things of note:
- Sam Milianta came out to Chicago and hung out with the usual crew on a Friday night. We’ve been exchanging photos for years though the FPV print exchange but this was the first time we actually met in person. I would encourage anyone out there who has any interest to snap some pictures and mail them out. Meet people, make new friends, explore and adventure. Read about his trip here.
- Static 4 and 5 are out. Well worth the wait.
- Great Lakes Tattoo celebrated 1 year in business last week with a proper party. Good food and good times. It seems like it’s been open longer because I’ve been there pretty regularly. I’m sure I’ll be back there sooner than later.
These are the things that happened.
Alex has been out of the city doing art things at a camp on the east coast. I miss rolling around and checking out art with him but we text every few days. Thanks to antennas the world is rarely inaccesible.
I heard about it first but then I had to see it. The elston bank was on the way out.
It was a tough spot to skate and usually there was plenty of rocks and garbage.
I remember skating there and getting wrecked rolling over an old smashed battery.
We went back twice before it was completely done. I hope they build something better to skate in it’s place but I don’t have high hopes.
Dan around the corner.
Farecard is still coming along. Nick helping get the angles.
Clemente has been a go to warm up spot.
Usually the warm up leads to getting stuck.
There are worse places to spend a summer afternoon.
Gum on griptape. The worst.
Got the holga out for a little change of pace.
Still getting used to it.
I do love it for portraits.
Starting to hit that midsummer lull where you forget about winter.
In spring if the weathers above 40 you want to spend the whole day outside and soak it all in because you’re not sure when the next good day will be. But summer arrives and beautiful days are plentiful and they become a little less precious.
Before you know it fall will be here.
I’m a big advocate for self-education and doing things yourself. Sometimes you fail terribly, sometimes things work out perfectly but either way practice leads to improvement and you never get better by giving up. I’m really happy with how my first batch of beer came out. Stop by and I’ll pour you one.
Looking forward August. Let’s make sure to end summer going full tilt.
