Weather:
Seattleish? Portlandlike? A lot of rain. Not really hard rain. Just persistent rain.
Next time I’ll have quite a bit more to announce but right now every thing is in progress and still developing.
Next Saturday I am very proud to be a part of the internet seizure fest that is Tween. Stop by if you can. I imagine my laptop battery is going to die in about 20 minute so get there early.
I’ve finally caught up with things I neeeded to scan and crop and upload and post. Well mostly. There’s still 2 rolls of 120 film I need to develop. Maybe next time I’ll be caught up. Look for shorter and more frequent posts this summer.
These are the things that happened.
A few months back there was a brutal blizzard.
So I headed out and snapped some pictures while I waited to get a ride home.
Things were slow but moving when we got on Lake Shore.
Eventually they just stopped. We ended up having to leave the car. I finally made it home around 4:00 or 4:30.
That first day was fun. Everyone was in it together. People were helping each other. It reminded me of a snow day from elementary school.
This car was buried for days.
Too much snow.
Dibs.
Snow as high as a man.
I wonder if this made more people get fake and baked.
It took awhile to get the streets back in shape.
This was a pretty good discovery in Lincoln Square.
This was a pretty creepy discovery in Lincoln Square.
There’s a chance this bike is still buried.
This was in the park across the street. Seated snowman. That was the blizzard of 2011.
Sometimes Chorizo gets on top of the cabinets.
Local cooler.
I went to the Art Institute Undergrad show with Alex and Alberto. There was a ton of stuff to see and it was packed to the gills. It was all pretty overwhelming.
This was one of my favorite things. It was really simple but really effective.
Just a few pieces of hanging clay and a light. Sorry I didn’t get the artist’s name. A sincere high five to whoever made it.
When we left and headed towards Alberto’s van there was a moment when we should have just pushed. Down the street they were filming some type of Playboy biopic. Later I rolled around downtown and saw a slowmotion movie car crash. The crash wasn’t being filmed. It just happened.
This is slightly related to all of that because it’s a shot I took at the Art Institute. This is the best tourist brochure picture I’ve ever taken.
Skating? Surely. Even though there’s been rain I’ve snuck a few szechuans in. Nick P showing up late as usual.
Justin with a front crook. He’s been killing it lately.
We hit up Thornside after a BaLe lunch. I’m glad it’s still standing. Hot Steve.
Shouldn’t those wire be covered?
My oldest and littlest cat. I love the focus on this picture.
I’m actually a fan of Mayor Daley and I’m kinda sad to see him go. Hopefully Rahm will build a hundred skateparks and life will be awesome but I figure it’ll probably be business as usual. Setting all that aside I was pretty shocked to see this. I have to imagine this guy gets pulled over a lot. He probably gets some applause but he also probably gets some extra going “21 in a 20” tickets. I’m sure the Calvin and Hobbes guy never would’ve guessed that it would come to this.
I think the Trump building is a nice addition to the skyline. Lately fog has been prevalent.
Waiting for the train after eating a dog and picking up a tripod.
Off kilter.
Another Chicago Kid.
Heading towards Damen.
I’ve been heading out and photo lurking around on this thing. Fun!
Checked out the Art Dump Show at the Post Family space with Alex. Great show. Great time. For legit photos of the show check out Tony’s shots.
Shoes off.
We go dancing tonight.
Rippling.
I manned the Parking Block table at this years Chicago Zinefest. Anders stopped by and browsed.
The Dude Life dudes rolled past post-szechuan.
Eric and Kate stopped by as part of Kate’s birthday celebration. Okay it wasn’t really part of her birthday celebration but it was her birthday.
Alex came by and drew me a tattoo. Oh yeah, since the last post I got a bunch of tattoos. More on that later. Mike Dalton put the taco Turbo drew on my arm on April fool’s day. I don’t have pictures but trust me, it’s amazing.
8:00 in the morning, packing up to try and capture some maneuvers.
Scouting new spots.
Looking in.
Wires and angles, some dismayed.
OFF! One of my favorite records in awhile. Here they are live. One of my favorite shows in awhile.
Heading to the zoo.
This monkey was pretty grouchy
This was the main reason for the visit. The new Gibbon. He’s wirey and squirrely. Go give him a look.
We went on an adventure.
We stopped in Madison for Lunch.
There was all kinds of protestors and a farmers market.
Sarah Palin was there.
Quiet.
Minneapolis was our target.
It was bit farther than I thought.
I really liked it.
It kind of reminded me of Portland. Mostly white people. A lot of weirdos. Low cost of living.
We had great weather. I think it was warmer than Chicago that weekend.
The main drawback is the brutal winter.
I guess you just adapt.
Or Hibernate.
I dug all the mills along the river.
And the parks.
The Mississippi.
Familia was closed by the time I got there.
Possibly a post office?
Liquor stores are closed on Sunday.
She’s going for it.
Electric.
I didn’t see too much graffitti. I was kind of surprised.
I really wanted to see First Avenue. I was disappointed to find out later that they didn’t really film Purple Rain here.
Scream dracula scream.
This bacon was superduper! I think the place was called Moose and Sadie.
Actually this might be in Chicago.
We rented bikes and cruised the paths in the morning.
These kids were padded up for downtown. It made me smile.
Allison was a trooper. I think we walked 400 miles.
Bowling Ass’n.
Potato goodness.
One of the reasons for this trip was to get some work from the always amazing, Shawn Hebrank. I think we figured out that we’ve been exchanging art in the mail for the past 6 years. It was good to finally get to hang out. Oh yeah the tattoo’s top shelf! Thanks Shawn!
I had a reserved parking space.
So long Minneapolis.
I look forward to going back and skating some more.
This logo is kinda of freaking me out.
Back in Chicago, the mighty Patrick Cornolo tattooed me before he turned 40. He hit it out of the park.
After the tattoo I went and checked out Snacki’s Secret Pizza Party.
Lots of great work.
I found one more copy of his zine yesterday. Grab it before it’s gone.
Done.
Prince would be proud.
