Weather:
70s. Springtime. At least for a day or two.
Got a minute?
Good cause there’s a bit of rambling here.
First off, there’s a few of these left, so if you want one grab it now.
Tomorrow is Suhail’s birthday. I think between us we both got a long list of stuff to get done this year so look for some good bro-cam street skating szechuans. If you see him, give him a good high-5 or buy him a beer.
The other big event tomorrow is Shirtless Mark Sizzle Szmanski’s departure from Chicago to head overseas. Sure he’ll be back in 5 weeks but it’ll still be weird not to have him around.
This Friday you should check out the new show at Second Bedroom and the Medicine Cabinet. From what I can tell the show’s going to be a doozy.
If you snooze on the art spectacle you can always head over to the Sweet Cobra show at Subterranean.
Anders and Nick are showing boards in Character’s show at Columbia College. The opening reception is March 27th but it’s up now so stop by and check it out.
I’ve been getting tons of great art in the mail from friends. I’ll be posting up pictures of that next week. I’ve also got a few artistic things brewing. Actually more than a few. It’s going to be a busy spring.
Nick K’s coming to town next week so I’m sure some sort of adventuring will evolve into some adventuring.
For now here’s what’s been going on:
The Damen stop on the brown line’s been reopened for a little while. It’s been nice.

At first I didn’t like Ethiopian food but it really grew on me. Demera is just down the street at Lawrence and Broadway.

They have live music on the weekends, it’s not that expensive and you get more food than you could possibly eat. I think this sour bread fills you up and expands in your stomach.

The first time I got this I asked for it spicy and it melted my face. Forty minutes after we left I was still talking about the heat on my lips. Painfully delicious!

One of my other favorites lately is Taqueria El Asadero on Montrose. You like steak tacos? Good cause they do it right.

If I was a bachelor this would be my dinner every night.

Some random art I’ve been seeing around town. There’s a lot of these fingerdogs.

I gotta guess this is art or maybe just general insanity. There seems to be a number of theories expressed here.

Everything’s better with cats.

This is supposed to be the east coast’s version of In and Out.

I got the small fry and they filled up half the bag. It was too much for two of us. Kind of a waste.

The burger was good enough to bring me back for a second try. Although it’ll probably be a while and I’m not in any rush.

Skating? There was some skating. Here’s Scott carving over the leaves and the snow.

Mark with a nosegrind.

Then straight to the Wing Stop. Wait is it Stop or Spot? I guess it doesn’t matter.

Gnarly Tom front 5050 at one of my favorite neglected spots. I shot some other things here that I’ll be using for a superswell artsy project in the future. It was cold but it was fun.

This is my friend Patrick. He runs a shop called Speakeasy.

We played some pool in the old Blue Note space after he got off work. I didn’t realize that it had changed. I’m not really with it these days.

My old friend Wayne’s gal tattooed this on his leg. It’s amazing!

I had family in town so I spend some time in Indiana.

What’s there to do in Indiana? Not much so I got spooky Sandpeople style.

I have a soft spot in my heart for pissed of farmers like this guy.

Last Sunday was the first really nice day at Wilson and it marked the return of the annual szechuan luncheon. We ended up going to Riques which has good fresh ingredients and free pastries. Here’s Spencer measuring his burrito.

Alex got this Jicama and chili pepper dish as his meal. Later he ordered the steak platter.

Suhail repped the CBN/DBN/BB.

When his food arrived I was pretty bummed because I should’ve ordered the same thing.

I got steak tostados.

Loucifer got fish tacos.

Scott had his first steak. He got the platter. Me and Suhail ate his chorizo. Good stuff.

Good job everyone!

Later that night I waited in line at Smoque for ribs. The sauce was odd but I didn’t really need the sauce. It’s in an odd location. I’m guessing there’s some spots to be discovered over that way. I’ll have to make more visits to investigate further.

Next week I’ll have the AZ post. It’s finally ready. Charlie was in town a few weeks ago so there’s some Cream City footage that I’ll put together too.

Spencer explains slappies.
I’m heading to New York in a few weeks. If you have any suggestions of what I should do please let me know.
