happy puppet streetgang
Thursday, January 15th, 2009Weather:
Serious brutal subzero temperatures.
A belated happy holidays and happy new year and happy 2009 and so forth. The last few posts have been a bit lacking because I’ve been trying to finish up a few block prints and tiny book. Those will possibly be made available for sale in the near future. For now I think most people probably got them in the mail.
If you like exploring the galaxy through pingpong check out Second Bedroom this weekend.
It’s 2009 and Such Luck has been around for quite some time and it seems to have served it’s purpose. In the next few months there will be some changes. Eventually a few new projects I’m working on will debut and hopefully take things in a slightly different direction. I have one big chunk of footage that I need to edit down and a few trick tips to post but after that edits will be limited. I’ll still be posting Polaroids, art work and food information on a regular basis. The reason for this change is there are plenty of other outlets out there to get Chicago skateboarding information and they tend to get it out there a lot quicker than I can.
To make sure you don’t go through withdrawal, I’ve put together this list of regularly updated Chicago skateboarding content. If you’re a friend of mine with a site that’s not listed please don’t be upset. It’s probably because you haven’t posted in over three months. If that’s you, then you shouldn’t be reading this you should be posting. You can also find a wealth of awesomeness on various Facebook, Myspace and Vimeo pages. Click around, make some bookmarks and visit when can:
OMSB – Old dudes talking about skating pool coping and concrete parks
Uprise – Chicago’s Finest for the past 10 years
EXP – Loucifer’s vert ramping, furniture making, art creating, road warrior reports
The furthest thing from a perfect fit – Jay’s artwork and skateboard exploration.
Scotty Karate – Even though he’s moved west he’s still in Chicago in my mind
Blerg – Zoe rips – I think she’s across country at the moment
Why Act? – Timothy Johnson’s internet headquarters
Reppin Chi – Kevin Kuczkowski’s photography and skating
Wellborn Clothing – Marfa’s clothing line – Buy shirts and see team footage
SRC Bypass – where Spencer keyboards.
And of course Buster Bear – Alex’s mental meltdowns
Good? Good.
Jose was back in town for the seasonal season. He also finished up his yearly Wilson edit. I’m in there smoking. I’m glad I quit. Top quality filming, top quality editing, top quality fun!
The end of autumn.

Creepy horror movie rooftops and what not.

I have 2 friends with dogs named Henry. This ones a girl.

I think the Action Squad was having some sort of a debate or Jedi council meeting.

I’ve been talking about posting up a new recipe for some time but I haven’t gotten around to it. Well get excited because the wait is over!

Well sort of…

Step one. You need to know Juan. Here he is with Danielle.

Step two. Every time you see Juan ask when he’s going to make you some of his famous empanadas. Just throw it in whenever you can. “How about that Obama? I bet he’d vote for you making some of those scrumptuous empanadas for me.”

Step three. Be patient and be persitant. Don’t give up hope.

Step four. Empanadas! Apply hot sauce.

Step five. Well this isn’t really a step. Danielle also made this outstanding soup. At least I was told it was outstanding. I didn’t really have time for that cause I was eating empanadas till I couldn’t eat no more.

A huge thanks to Juan and Danielle for killing it in the kitchen and making this recipe possible.
Moving on. The zoo is empty and quiet in the winter. It’s nice.

There has been a bit of skating. Here’s Steve going with a frontsider on the vert wall at Krush. Click for the full size it’s much better.
I also made it down to McCormick Place for Mayor Daley’s Winter Sportsfest.

There was some wheel cleaning problems.

It was good to see everyone who’s been hibernating.

I don’t really whoop it up on New Year’s Eve anymore. Not many people I know do. Chad put together this Eve of the Eve thing where everyone showed up and ate BBQ. Good call.

Spencer getting subliminal.

Tony Francesconi. Lou’s vert ramp is responsible for his current hobbled state.

On New Year’s Eve we decided to try something new and after a bit of research we ended up here.

Since I don’t read Spanish very well I almost ended up ordering 4 of these but they were kind enough to steer me in the right direction.

Huaraches Dona Chio. I give it 5 out of 5 high fives.

If you read the last post and watched the video you probably figured out how I spent the first day of 2009. Here’s Mark Szymanski getting sideways on the wall.

Cream City. Grand champion indoor parking block sanctuary.

Gnarly Tom abusing the concrete.

That’s about it.

Until next time. Please enjoy this short video of me curbdogging.
It’s been a pretty good year. Thanks for taking the time to visit.
