not never for nothing

Weather:
There was that one weekend where it rained and everything flooded. I think they’re still cleaning that up in Indiana. Then it was summery but now it’s feeling a bit like fall. No snow. That’s a good thing.

Last time I said I was going to post a recipe but you’re going to have to wait a week or two more because I didn’t get it together.

Carey Primeau takes really amazing pictures of decaying architecture and you can see his work at the Chicago Art Open. Congratulations on being selected as a curators choice. It’s well deserved.

Chris Smith wrote up a ridiculously flattering introduction and description for my presentation at The Medicine Cabinet. I’m not sure I can live up to it but I have been working on something that I think’ll be pretty top notch.

Since winter will be here soon I’ve been accumulating ideas and source material that needs to worked. Somethings to look for, new stickers and collaborative shirts. This picture is the start of another project that I need to finish before fall. If you like to skate the plaza at night give me a yell.

Plaza Backtail Polaroid sequence

That’s it for art stuff.

I went and saw the Party Downers a few weeks back. The undisputed heavyweight champions of Chicago skate rock at it’s finest. The record should be out soon. I’ll let you know where to find it when I hear.

Remember how I was talking about the rain. Well it kind of killed the Renegade Craft Fest.

Dr. K came along and tried to steal this umbrella dog.

He just celebrated his birthday so add that to the list of September birthdays that I gotta wish. Jose’s birthday was a while back but more on that later. Since we were going to the rainy craft fair we had to make the pilgrimage to Irazu. Good food, good price. It’s what I’d miss if I moved.

The only oatmeal milk shake I know of.

Of course there’s been some skating.

Don’t worry, Luis has mostly recovered from his softball ankle turn.

Last time Chris had on a tyedye shirt. This time he’s got a Hamm’s and tyedye bruise.

Marfa has taken a bit of time off from Wellborn Clothing to skate. Crail over the hip.

The other day we were at Wilson and the Action Team was plotting a day of street skating. It was pretty inspiring and made me nostalgic for days of just skating around and finding stuff. Hands down. They rule.

Similar to the infamous ice cream truck incident, the trailer for their promo involves some sort of bicycling debate.

Szymanksi’s been doing some documenting via the video camera. And unlike me he actual edits and gets the footage up in a timely fashion:
The Carwash Ramp
Ten Tricks with Alex
Random Wilson Homies

Also, I don’t post these every time because I figure you should just check SkateIllinois, KaratePhotography and EXP every day.

As I said before it was Jose’s birthday earlier this month. Before he moved back to California we put together this tribute to the early days of skateboarding VHS tapes.

Weather:
Yesterday the temperature dropped and I could’ve worn long sleeves. Today it’s been raining for about 5 hours. This weekend? It’s supposed to be nice. Lets hope they’re right.

My post frequency has dropped off a bit lately but that should change as the weather continues to deteriorate. So again this will be long with lots of pictures and some video and general awesome stuff.

Falling under the category of awesome stuff is the piece of brick-a-brack I’m putting together for a show at the Medicine Cabinet in November. Mark your calendars please.

That’s it artwise except for Jason’s site although I may have posted that up before. Either way go take a look. Dan used his photography skills to capture some concrete rocking and rolling.

Now that Kevin lives up north we get to szechaun at Wilson more. He did a good job of capturing Brad going big. Now that he’s in the neighborhood we’ll have to get some street missions going.

Scott’s been going on solo missions. I think he’s back in the city but it’s hard to tell. He tried to explain some spot he found and from what I can remember its somewhere around and there’s something there that could be a ledge sort of but probably without a run up.

The Action Squadron posted up their summer edit a few weeks back and then went artsy with some weirdness.

Artsy goodness
? Tony Francesconi goes Memory Screen style and documents the great foot race at Scotty Karate’s first going away.

Yeah Jose’s back in California and Scotty is on his way there. They’ll be missed. Come back, skate soon and keep up the good work.

So here’s what’s been up. Lou’s back!

Lou's back!

We played croquette at Eric and Kate’s. We lost but there was good food and friends so everybody wins.

This was the start of the BBQ’s. Next up was Scotty’s going away at Chad’s. He takes the burger grilling pretty seriously. I think the burgers were about a pound and a half each.

There was laughter.

And revelry.

Zoe was there, still hobbled but recovering.

A week or so later and Scotty was still going away this time with bowling and Dom.

Tasha came to town for the holiday weekend so we had serious discussion, laughed heartily, thought deeply, pondered ideas, caught up on old times, brainstormed projects but most importantly, we got DQ.

Tasha - Dairy Queening

We’ve been going on some street missions and that’ll be put together into an edit before it snows. One of those days we went to Mr. Beef to try and settle the best slice debate. Good sauce but I’m still saying Gigio’s.

Slices at Mr. Beef!

Since I’m holding back all the street stuff you’ll have to make due with more Wilson randomness like this picture of Chris talking to a butterfly. It could’ve been a moth though.

Alex doesn’t need bushings.

And finally the July/August Edit. The usual locs.
