the opulence of a clear blue sky
Sunday, May 11th, 2008Weather:
Today is Mother’s Day and the forecast called for a 100 percent chance of rain. For once they were correct.
I’ve been editing. Sorry.
Tony Francesconi takes fantastic photographs and is brewing this up. I’m not sure what it’ll be but I look forward to finding out.
I got a bit of work from Dimestore. Check it out the next time you see me.
I don’t see Chris Smith enough. I figure he’s been busy curating his new gallery space, Second Bedroom. Kick-ass idea, I look forward to the shows.
Over in NYC, the all mighty Instant Winner and Acapulco Gold hosted the King of Spring a few weeks back. That first trick on the van is raw.
The Party Downers have a website and a show coming up at the Empty Bottle on May 24th. See you there.
I’d like to wish former Chicago resident Ricky a belated birthday. He was back in town and I missed him.
After spending the winter in sunny California, Jose will be back for the summer shortly. Look for mid-morning hungover skateboarding trickery soon.
Man of the Year.

A few Saturdays back it drizzled and dried repeatedly for a few hours and before the rain pounded the pavement permanently we decided to go to Cinners and eat chili. Unfortunately I didn’t know they open at four. So we ended up at the Brauhouse.

There was live music and beer.

The waitress was pretty certain about what you were going to have. If you didn’t order it, she corrected you. They sat us in the special historical photograph nook.

Like I said, there was skating earlier. Matt frontslide slide and roll.

Nate 5050 to fakie.

Grumpy with the wizard sky background.

You like tricks? Spencer shows you the way.
Steve came out before the shop opened and put down this smith. Have you bookmarked Skate Illinois yet? If I ever figure out compression I’ll be posting up some weirdness.

Next week? Lines and scratch off tickets at the plaza, more Wilson, Polaroids and a new puzzle.

Sometime mid or late June I’m putting together a BBQ at Wilson. It will involve the usual burgers, hot dogs, beer, soda, water, lemonade, sun burn and skateboarding. Some other ideas: the best wheel screeching quarterpipe trick, most unusual streetplant, the new Ray Barbee challenge, (most no-comply’s in a line with no variation repeated) the Daewon Wilson challenge, (best 3 wheel trick) and the Alex GED clothing challenge. If you have any ideas or are down to help out or contribute, send me an email.
Let’s get summer started.
