stop being so provocative

Weather:
I wore shorts and now I got lobster legs.

First things first. Next Friday at EXP Gallery the Board Show opens. Be there between 6-10 for beer drinking and art viewing. I’m still working on mine. I’d be finished but I keep going skating.

This is an unusually long post so click below for the rest…

Last weekend I was lucky enough to see true love come together.

love in marriage

As promised here is the rabbit picture they commisioned me to do and as I said before it looks much better in light. The gold gets all twinkly and scrawlish.

Humphrey thumps

Mark sent over this picture of his grandmother. He’s been on a a serious art making streak. We’re working on pieces for a show together but at this rate it’s gonna be a solo show for him.

On Wednesday night this guy put down the hammer. You can see the result when you see me in the flesh.

Patrick on the grind

So the next day it was like 90 and I figured the best thing to do with a fresh tattoo was go on a skate trip with Sweet Lou and Mapquest.

First we went to some metal park. I don’t know where but I liked that they knobbed this bench cause I’m sure a bunch of kids were popping over the wood chip gap and grinding the wood and then popping back over.

why would you knob this

Then we skated this ditch I’d heard so much about. It was slippery.

slickery

This was fun for sometime and then there was a car wreck across the way.

smooshed car

It was pretty windy and when we left Spencer found that his water bottle had blown into the water.

Then we went to see the new Schaumburg park. We didn’t really have proper directions but after looking around it worked out. What didn’t work out is the park. As you can see it’s already cracking and for some reason the entire shallow end is a roll-in.

travesty

They also poured a mini bowl for hot wheels first and then built another the rest of the bowl around it making it sweet and kinked. You can probably launch from the mini pond to the regular transitions.

lumped and kinked

Lou can rip lumpy Whiting and this still made his knee look like this.

The rest of the park wasn’t bad for ledges and more ledges. No skating photos but all good times. Glad I took the day off and we traveled.

Soon open

Friday was another night on the lurk bench.

Saturday I got in a few minutes before the rain came. Then it was off to meet my compatriot in art looking for looking at art stuff.

I believe all of these exhibits are done or are ending soon. Quality reporting!

First we hit the MOCP for the Barbara Strauss exhibit.

I didn’t get to see the other stuff as it was closed off for disassembly. I liked most of her stuff and I really like the sweaters in the pictures. Before going in I took this picture. The sticker on the lightpost reads, “When I am king, you will be first against the wall.”

When we came out from the show I found a better composition. (click the above image for second photo)

After that we headed to the Harold Washington Library because I heard they had a Smithsonian exhibit featuring art in books.

JFK quote - Harold Washington Library

A security guard asked what we were there for and when we told him he started laughing. When we saw the exhibit we understood. This was pretty much it.

Passed the Memorial Day parade on the way to the Cultural Center. It’s sad cause they’re so young. I wish them good luck and safe returns.

Too young for Iraq

I also spotted this street team. Pink Uggs?

And this alley spot.

And a R2 mailbox.

Unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures of the Lee Mingwei exhibit. I wish I could’ve seen him make the giant Picasso out of sand. Did he work side to side? From the middle? Suspended?

Here is a proposed piece for Midway Airport. Those are all planes. I’d love to see it in the wind.

Heading west we happened upon the Showmens Club. Apparently this is still in operation. I imagine cigars, whiskey and elephant wrangling stories.

The Showmens Club

This might need a sign and some duct tape but it still looks promising.

bank with gap

The majority of the galleries were closed but Peter Miller was open and I got to see some new work by my favorite painter Laurie Hogin. If I owned this it would replace my TV. I snuck a picture.

Laurie Hogin is brilliant

Caught the Last Seduction show at the Carrie Secrist Gallery. They were changing bulbs on the giant chandelier. Holy smokes that thing gets hot! Some good photos and a paper house as well.

One the way home I saw this. Gotta admire the size when you compare to the storefronts. Get up.

going big in uptown

Sunday was another day at Wilson. There was a lord of the flies situation in the bowl with kids beating each other and pinching. Zoe was there.

According to this photo it was snowing. That will be fixed in the future possibly. Here is Zoe standing one up as a baby buddha looks on.

On Monday there was Chappelle drama. Hopefully he’s gone for good. When you see Soma give him a high 5. This is the best shirt ever.

Warn a brother

The Suicidal Tendencies really fell off on that second record.

Whats coming up?

Allisons birthday.

The deck show.

Tony’s show.

And of course the deadline for the food zine. Entries are coming in heavy.

Razor tail and wheel bite.

Quite a week.
